United States Army Garrison (USAG) Stuttgart is located in the southwest German city of Stuttgart, the cultural and political capital of the state of Baden-Württemberg. The city of Stuttgart is home to more than 1.5 million people including the adjoining suburbs. Stuttgart is best known as the manufacturing site of Mercedes and Porsche cars. Stuttgart is conviently located to drive or take a train to Switzerland, Austria, France, Italy, Luxembourg, Belgium, or the Netherlands.

The Stuttgart Military Community is known as a "Purple Community," meaning that all branches of service (to include active duty, reserve and guard) are assigned here from the Army, Air Force, Marines, Navy and Coast Guard. Federal civil service (NSPS), contract employees and local national hires are also part of the workforce in the community.

USAG Stuttgart provides support services at four primary installations; Panzer Kaserne, Patch Barracks, Kelley Barracks and Robinson Barracks, and maintains a presence at the Stuttgart Army Airfield.

Location/Driving Directions

From Frankfurt/Heidelberg

Take A5 S to Stuttgart/Munchen/Pforzheim.Take the 81 Singen/Boblingen/S-Zentrum/S-Vaihingen straight towards S-Zentrum/S-Vaihingen. Take 831 S-Zentrum/S-Vaihingen. First exit, Stuttgart-Vaihingen.Turn left Patch Barracks/IBM/BMW.

From Stuttgart International Airport To Patch Barracks

Right at traffic light. Follow signs to Munich, Ulm Esslingen, Stuttgart Ost, to Autobahn 8. Exit S-Vaihingen, Autobahn 831. Merge right at S-Vaihingen, Patch Barracks. Take left at stop light, go through next stop light, Patch Barracks will be on your left.

To Kelley Barracks

Turn left at the traffic light. Follow Autobahn 8, Karlsruhe, Singen, Heilbronn to Stuttgart 27. Follow 27 towards Stuttgart, exit right to S-Moehringen, S-Fasanenhof, S-Hohenheim, and Kelley Barracks. Veer into left lane, turn left at second traffic light. Follow sign with Plieningen, Hohenheim, Kelley Barracks, Pressehaus, Daimler Benz. 1/2 mile, make a left at Kelley Barracks sign.

To Panzer Kaserne

Turn right at the traffic light. Follow signs for Munchen, Ulm, Esslingen, Stuttgart Ost to Autobahn 8. Take Karlsruhe 8. Follow sign for Karlsruhe,Singen,Heilbronn 8. Stay on Autobahn 8, until Exit Boblingen, Singen Autobahn 81. Follow the exit around and take a left at the traffic light, follow road to the entrance.

To Robinson Barracks

Turn RT at the traffic light. Follow signs for Munchen,Ulm,Esslingen, Stuttgart Ost to Autobahn 8, following signs to S-Vaihingen, Stuttgart81. Keep straight til sign reading Stuttgart 831.The Autobahn will end. Make a left turn at the traffic light. Stay on priority road until you reach Stuttgart Messe. Turn left at light. Follow road to large intersection. Turn left on Siemen Str. Turn right on Leitz Str. Follow road to Auerbach Str, turn left onto Schozacher Str, follow sign to Zuffhausen Rot. Turn left Heidloch Str. main entrance.

Temporary Lodging

On Post Hotels include:
Kelley Hotel, located at Kelley Barracks, Building 3301 DSN 314-421-2815, or 011-49-711-729-2815. All rooms have either one or two queen size beds and private baths, international direct-dial phone, cable TV, video player, refrigerator, microwave oven, hairdryer, clock radio, adjoining rooms available for larger families, three completely handicap accessible rooms. There are limited rooms available for pets.

The Robinson Hill Top Hotel, located at Robinson Barracks, Building 169, DSN 314-420-7038, or 011-49-711-819-7038. Private baths in each room; adjoining family rooms, rooms have international direct-dial phone, cable TV, video player, refrigerator, microwave oven, hairdryer, clock radio, full size iron board and iron, safe, sauna and life cycle fitness equipment room in the basement. Pets are allowed!

If on-post accommodations are full, you may stay in an off-post hotel. You can acquire a Statement of Non-Availability control number from the office of the Schwabian Inn at DSN 314-430-7181. When you stay in off-post lodging, you are entitled to Temporary Lodging Allowance (TLA). Without this SNA number TLA reimbursement will not be authorized. TLA can be claimed in 10 day increments, with your original hotel receipt, from the Housing Office. Housing

Stuttgart has 1706 on-post Army Family Housing quarters. Except for Senior Grade Officers Quarters, all the housing units located in Stuttgart are in stairwell buildings. There are no washer/dryer connections inside individual units. The housing units are relatively small in size. Most units have storage cages and/or enclosed storage rooms within the building where small items such as bicycles, sleds and seasonal items may be kept. Each set of quarters has an assigned uncovered parking space.

There two, three, and four bedroom units on post. Rank and size of family will determine your specific requirement. There is a limited number of five plus bedroom units for large families.

Off-post housing for 3 bedroom or larger apartments is very limited and very expensive. One may expect to pay up to €10 per square meter (10.75 sq. ft.) plus costly security deposits and renovation costs. Service members should not bring their family members without first contacting the housing office to determine waiting periods for on-post housing. As a reminder for service members with families, the Stuttgart housing office in the only entity authorized to approve off-post housing.

There is a limited number of on-post Senior Enlisted Bachelor Quarters for single E-7s and above. Single service members in grades of E-6 and below must reside in barracks. Subject to availability, personnel in grade of E-6 may reside in SEBQ's.The housing office will assist you with all your housing needs.

Child Care

The Central Enrollment and Registration Office for USAG Stuttgart is located on Patch Barracks in Building 2347, second floor. CDCs offer full-day, part-day and hourly care for children ages six weeks through kindergarten. Family Child Care offers small, multi-age group care in a nurturing, home environment. FCC offers a variety of home care options for children ages four weeks to 5th or 6th grade. FCC hours of operation tend to be more tailored to meet the needs of military families' schedules. School Age Services serves as a bridge between child development and youth services for students in grades one through five. SAS provides a safe after-school activities and study environments that include computer labs. with programs accredited by the National School Age Care Alliance. The school age staff receives training in adolescent growth and development so they are professionally equipped to interact with pre-teens nine to 12 years old.

Schools

There are four Department of Defense Dependants' Schools located in the Stuttgart area. Each elementary school has Kindergarten through grade six. Seventh through grade twelve students "feed" collectively into Patch Middle/High School. Bus service is provided to DoDDS for those living off the post where the school is located and who are on an established bus route. Hot lunches are provided in all cafeterias.

Documents required for registration include: Certificate of Immunization; PCS orders and family member travel orders (if applicable); Service member s ID card; Address and phone number of emergency point of contact; Official mailing address and phone number of sponsor; Home phone number and prefix (if available); Child's social security number.

DoDEA has changed its Early Child Hood Education programs entrance requirements for all DoD Schools for Calendar Year 2009-2010. Age requirement are:

Sure Start and Pre-Kindergarten Programs, a child must be 4 years of age by September 1.
Kindergarten Programs, a child must be 5 years of age by September 1.
First Grade, a child must be 6 years of age by September 1.

There is an International School located in Stuttgart as well as many German public schools.

Another option for education for children in the Stuttgart area is Home Schooling. There is a very active Home School Association which publishes a monthly newsletter and has group activities and support meetings. Contact the Stuttgart Area Home School Group Leader for more information.

Medical Care

Both a Health Clinic and Dental Clinic are located on Patch Barracks.

Medical and dental services at the clinic are available free of charge to active duty service members and their command-sponsored family members. Health Clinic services are available for a fee for civilians and contractors. Retirees, Civilians, Contractors and their Family Members are seen at the Dental Clinic on a Space Available basis only, which is extremely limited. A list of English speaking local German dentists is available at the Dental Clinic. There are no emergency medical services provided at the Health and Dental Clinics.

Army Hospital Heidelberg is located approximately 2 hours north of Stuttgart. It is a small community hospital available for limited specialty care by referral from the Stuttgart Health Clinic. Heidelberg Hospital is also available by toll-free telephone for medical advice when the Stuttgart Health Clinic is not open for patient care. The Stuttgart Health Clinic may also make referrals to the military medical facility at Landstuhl, also located in Germany, approximately 3 hours from Stuttgart.
