One of the most important parts of your LinkedIn profile is the Skills & Endorsements section. In that section, you can list your skills, and other LinkedIn users can endorse them.  You’ve probably noticed that LinkedIn asks if you want to endorse your connections. It’s easy to do by simply clicking on the skills LinkedIn suggested.

Why are the skills you include in your profile important? The more skills you list, the better your chances of getting contacted by hiring managers.

LinkedIn reports that "Members with five or more skills listed are contacted (messaged) up to 33 times more by recruiters and other LinkedIn members, and receive up to 17 times more profile views."

How Skills Help You Get Noticed

Having a comprehensive list of skills will help get your profile noticed by connections and recruiters. When recruiters search for candidates, skills will be one of the criteria they use.

If you’re not sure what to include, review the list below of the top LinkedIn skills. Before you add a skill, make sure it matches the job responsibilities in your profile and on your resume. Prospective employers will notice if there’s a mismatch.

How to Add Skills to Your LinkedIn Profile

Selecting Skills to Include

What skills should you include in your profile? If you’re job searching, it’s important to include skills closely related to the type of job you’re seeking.

If you’re not actively job hunting, align your skills to your career interests and goals.  In both cases, the skills you include will help get your profile noticed by hiring managers.

Removing Skills

Other LinkedIn members can endorse you for skills, and what they suggest may not be a fit for your qualifications and career interests.

If the skills your connections have added don’t match your current expertise, it’s fine to delete them. Simply click the X next to the skill. You can also reorder your list to put the most relevant skills at the top. Do this regularly, so your profile stays up-to-date.
