The Credit People, Inc., provides one credit repair package with a monthly payment plan ($79 per month and a one-time first work fee of $19) or a fixed six-month payment plan (a flat fee of $419). While The Credit People’s monthly rate is about average for the industry, its one-time first work fee is less than many of the other credit repair companies we reviewed. One of the key drawbacks is that add-on services like monthly credit monitoring and financial management tools (e.g., budgeting) aren’t offered by The Credit People.

Its reputation isn’t as good as some of the other credit repair companies we reviewed, as The Credit People only has a C+ rating with the Better Business Bureau (BBB). Plus, there are limited customer reviews available. However, there haven’t been complaints filed with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) over the past three years, which is excellent. We considered all of this and more in our review of The Credit People.

Company Overview: Team of Experts Providing a Single Service

The Credit People was founded in 2001 and is headquartered in Cottonwood Heights, Utah. Unlike some of its competitors, The Credit People offers a single credit repair service, without any add-ons or tiered pricing. Although you won’t get monthly credit monitoring from Experian or Transunion, like you can with some other credit repair companies, you will get to work with credit advisors that are trained and certified in the laws related to credit repair, including the Fair Credit Reporting Act. This type of expertise helps The Credit People stand out from the competition.

Available Services: Focused Solely on Credit Repair

The Credit People only offers credit repair services, via either a monthly membership or a flat-rate membership. The monthly membership costs $79 a month (average for the industry) and can be canceled at any time, with a better-than-average $19 one-time first work fee that’s paid when you enroll. You can also choose to sign up for a flat-rate membership, in which case the $19 fee is waived, and you instead pay a one-time fee of $419 for six months of service.

The Credit People will repair an unlimited number of issues, so it’s ideal for clients who have a lot of outstanding credit-repair items to address.

With both plans, your team of credit advisors will help you repair an unlimited number of items. Plus, per a customer service representative, your advisor will start working on all the credit repair issues right away. This level of credit repair work is great, especially since some firms limit the number of items that can be repaired, the number of items that can be worked at one time, or both. Plus, you’ll be working with a credit advisor who is certified in the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), the law focused on consumer protection related to credit reporting. Working with credit advisors who understand the rules governing consumer protection and credit repair is definitely an advantage of signing up with The Credit People.

Our Expert Megan Says,

You’ll work with well-trained credit advisors that are certified in the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

You’ll get access to all three of your credit reports and credit scores online after you sign up and periodically as you progress through the program. However, a customer service agent confirmed that the company doesn’t offer monthly credit monitoring, nor does it provide financial management tools (other than a variety of articles on its website). The lack of a monthly credit monitoring option from a credit bureau like Transunion or Experian is a bit disappointing since it’s offered by much of the competition.

Optional Add-ons: No Additional Services Available

Unlike many other credit repair companies, The Credit People does not offer any additional services, such as credit monitoring or financial management tools. You will receive free credit reports and scores when you sign up for services and occasionally as the company monitors your progress.

The Credit People doesn’t offer any other services besides credit repair.

Customer Service: 24/7 Account Access and Online Enrollment

If you want to talk to access your account online, you can do so 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Phone and email support are available on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. CST. If you want to take advantage of the company’s free credit consultation, you can submit a request online. You can also enroll in a plan with The Credit People online, a nice feature many other credit repair companies do not offer.

Reputation: Relatively Low BBB Rating

The Credit People is not accredited by the Better Business Bureau, yet has a C+ rating. The BBB notes its rating is mostly due to concerns with the credit repair industry. While the company was founded in 2001, according to the BBB, it's only been incorporated since 2016. This recent incorporation date may also help explain the relatively low BBB rating. There have been only six complaints with the BBB in the past three years, which primarily related to problems with the company’s products or services. A check of the CFPB’s consumer complaint database didn’t reveal any complaints during the past three years, which is a good thing.

Customer Satisfaction: Limited Reviews Available

One of the key drawbacks to The Credit People is a limited number of customer reviews. There are only three customer reviews available from the BBB, and the company has no customer reviews on Trustpilot. The Credit People does, however, have a 5-star rating with Consumer Affairs based on eight customer reviews. Many of the Consumer Affairs reviewers praised the level of customer service they received from The Credit People, with some noting their credit repair issues were resolved.

Cost: Easy-to-Understand Pricing

The Credit People’s pricing is easier to understand than many of the other credit repair companies we reviewed. This is mostly because the company only offers a single credit repair package that can be paid either monthly or upfront for six months. If you choose the monthly option, you’ll pay a one-time fee of $19 upfront and $79 a month until you cancel your plan (you can cancel at any time). Plus, if your spouse signs up, you’ll each get a discount of $20 off your first monthly payment. With The Credit People’s flat-rate plan, you’ll instead pay a fixed fee of $419 that covers your entire six months of membership, a savings of $74 over what you would pay with the monthly plan over the course of six months (there’s no other discount available for this plan).

Our Expert Megan Says,

The Credit People’s pricing is easier to understand than many of the other credit repair companies we reviewed.

When you sign-up for the monthly membership, you can cancel at any time. Plus, if you’re ever unhappy with the level of service you received, The Credit People guarantees you won’t be charged for service in the month you cancel. The company extends its satisfaction guarantee for the entire six-month period if you choose its flat-rate membership plan. This is a great guarantee when compared to the competition.

The Credit People charges the following fees for its two credit repair membership options:

Plan One-Time Fee Monthly Fee
Monthly Membership $19 $79
Flat Rate Six Month Membership $419 None

The Credit People vs. Sky Blue Credit: Better BBB Rating and Lower Fees

Another credit repair company that provides a similar level of services as The Credit People is Sky Blue. While The Credit People was founded in 2001, Sky Blue has an even longer history of operations, dating back to 1989. Both companies focus solely on credit repair (so you won’t get monthly credit monitoring, financial management tools, or other add-on services) and offer one credit repair plan with a monthly cost of $79.

Our Expert Megan Says,

The Credit People does not offer any additional services, like credit monitoring or financial management.

You’ll get a better value from The Credit People, since its one-time first work fee is only $19, compared to the $79 charged by Sky Blue. However, while there are limited customer reviews available for The Credit People, Sky Blue Credit has 4-star customer reviews with the BBB. Even so, The Credit People’s BBB rating of C+ is slightly better than Sky Blue’s BBB rating of C. After considering all of this, of the two options, we would choose The Credit People based on its lower first work fee and better BBB rating.

The Credit People Sky Blue Credit
Monthly Price $79 $79
First Work Fees $19 $79
Number of Plans One One
BBB Accredited Business No No
BBB Rating C+ C
BBB Reviews No rating 5-star
Final Verdict

Simple Pricing Structure and FCRA-Certified Advisors

The Credit People is a decent option if you simply need to have your credit repaired, don’t require monthly credit monitoring from one of the three credit bureaus, and aren’t looking for financial management tools. Its pricing structure is simple, as it only offers one credit repair plan that can either be paid monthly or six months at a time. Plus, you’ll work with well-trained credit advisors that are certified in and knowledgeable about the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
