5 Best Credit Cards for Everyday Spending
Most people tend to spend more money on things like gas and groceries every day and if that sounds like you, look at the Blue Cash Everyday Card or the Bank of America Cash Rewards Card. If you dine out a lot, the Uber Visa Card will pay you the most rewards. And for earning rewards on your everyday spending regardless of the category, look at the Chase Freedom Unlimited or the Citi Double Cash.
Each credit card has their unique benefits so compare them to your spending habits to pick the best one (or two) to have in your wallet. There's no annual fee on any of the cards on our list of best credit cards for everyday spending. Some even offer an introductory APR and pay a signup bonus if you meet the initial spending requirement.
Blue Cash Everyday Card From American Express
If you spend a lot at grocery stores, the Blue Cash Everyday Card from American Express is a must-have. You'll earn 3 percent cash back on up to $6,000 in purchases at U.S. supermarkets each year. That's at least $180 in cash back rewards just from grocery spending. Plus, you'll earn 2 percent cash back on U.S. Gas stations and select department stores and 1 percent cash back on everything else including grocery purchases over the $6,000 annual threshold.
Spend $1,000 on purchases in the first three months, and you'll earn a $150 introductory bonus. The bonus, as your other rewards, can be redeemed for a statement credit, gift cards, and merchandise.
There's a 0 percent introductory rate on purchases and balance transfers for the first 15 months. After that, the regular APR is 14.74 percent to 25.74 percent.
The regular Chase Freedom credit card has been a popular credit card for several years with its 5 percent cash back on purchases in quarterly rotating categories. The Chase Freedom Unlimited is a little better for everyday spending because it pays 1.5 percent cash back on all your purchases. You don't have to enroll or switch your spending to earn rewards on a regular basis. You can earn 3% cash back on all purchases in your first year on up to $20,000 spent.
Rewards are automatic, and there’s no limit to the number of rewards you can earn. There’s no minimum redemption amount for your cash back rewards and your rewards never expire.
Enjoy 0 percent introductory APR for 15 months from account opening on both purchases and balance transfers. After that, the regular APR of 17.24 percent – 25.99 percent applies.
Bank of America Cash Rewards Credit Card
If you have a long daily commute, a large SUV, or a luxury car that requires premium gas, you probably spend a lot of money on gas each week. The Bank of America Cash Rewards Credit Card pays 3 percent cash back on gas purchases and 2 percent cash back on the first $2,500 in combined gas, grocery, and wholesale club spending each quarter; and 1 percent on everything else. You can earn a $150 spending bonus after spending $500 on purchases within the first 90 days of opening your account.
If you’re a Bank of America customer, you can receive a 10 percent bonus on your rewards by redeeming them for cash back into a Bank of America checking or savings account. Preferred Rewards clients can also use a rewards bonus.
Enjoy 0 percent introductory APR on purchases and balance transfers for the first 12 billing cycles. Balance transfers must be made within the first 60 days of opening your account to qualify for the special rate. After that, the regular APR of 14.74 percent to 24.74 percent will be applied.
Citi Double Cash gives you two opportunities to earn rewards on your everyday purchases. First, you’ll earn 1 percent cash back on all the purchases you make on your card. Then, you’ll earn an additional 1 percent as you pay for your purchases. You’ll earn the extra 1 percent cash back whether you pay for your purchases in full or all at once; you just need to pay at least the minimum. There are no caps or restrictions on your ability to earn rewards. Rewards can be redeemed for a check or a statement credit.
An introductory 0 percent APR applies to balance transfers for 18 months. Purchases and balance transfers after the initial period will be assessed interest at 15.74 percent to 25.74 percent.
Uber Visa Card
If you dine out frequently, check out the Uber Visa Card which pays 4 percent cash back on your food purchases at restaurants, takeout, bars, and UberEATS. Plus earn 3 percent on airfare, hotels, and vacation home rentals; 2 percent back on online purchases, Uber rides, and video and music streaming; and 1 percent back on all your other purchases. If you spend $500 on purchases in the first 90 days of opening your account, you’ll earn a $100 bonus.
You can receive up to $50 credit for online subscription services after you spend $5,000 on your car each year. Use your Uber Visa Card to pay your monthly phone bill and receive up to $600 in mobile phone protection which allows you to save money by ditching your cell phone carrier's insurance plan.
The Uber Visa Card doesn't offer an introductory APR. The regular APR for purchases and balance transfers is 16.24 percent to 25.24 percent.
