She retired from teaching to spend more time with her seven grandchildren, which began her second career as a web journalist. In addition to freelance writing, Susan is the author of "Stories From My Grandparent: An Heirloom Journal for Your Grandchild," the 2014 book that directs grandparents on how to record their personal stories for their descendants.

Susan is frequently consulted as a grand-parenting expert. Her contributions have appeared in numerous publications, including The Balance, The Spruce, VeryWell, TripSavvy, and Grand Magazine.
