When applying for a social media manager job, you will often be instructed to include a cover letter with your resume and application materials. Your cover letter is your opportunity to introduce yourself and highlight and expand on a few specific items from your resume.

You will want to elaborate on those experiences which most closely match the requirements of the position. Doing so will show the hiring manager, at a glance, why you're a strong candidate for the position.

It will also increase your chances of getting selected for an interview.

What to Include in Your Cover Letter

In your cover letter, you have the chance to reinforce the skills, experience, and education listed on your resume. You can add anecdotes and details that you didn’t have room to include, but that show clearly how well qualified you are for the job. Use highlights from your work experience that match the qualifications the employer has listed in the job position to showcase your most relevant skills.

Your cover letter is also your opportunity to express your enthusiasm for the position, and mention reasons you think you would be a good fit.

It can be helpful to review an example of a cover letter for a social media job, to help you to formulate your own letter. You may find it helpful to use a template as well, to help format your letter, and make sure that you include all the information required.

Social Media Manager Cover Letter

Dear Mr./Ms. Last Name,

I would like to express my strong interest in the Social Media Manager position at Sunshine Hospital, as listed on Dice.com. I am confident that my previous success as a social media manager, as well as my strong communication and collaboration skills, make me an ideal candidate for the position.

I have ten years of experience in marketing, and I have spent the last five of those years as a Social Media Manager. I know what it takes to manage an effective online marketing campaign. I have expanded and/or developed social media presences for over one dozen organizations. My most recent campaign for XYZ Company led to an increase of over 35% in inbound traffic for XYZ’s website. Through a combination of creative social media marketing strategies and thorough monitoring of success through media analytics, KPIs, and dashboards, I can assure your company a similar rate of success.

You state in your job application that you are looking for a Social Media Manager who is able to collaborate with others, particularly your upper management and sales staff. As Marketing Coordinator for ABC Health Systems, I maintained regular, open communication with the entire sales team, holding quarterly meetings in which I presented marketing reports and sought analysis and feedback from the entire team. As Social Media Manager for Jones & Jones PR Firm, I collaborated with the Director of Marketing and Producer of every company for which I worked. Multiple companies with which I worked praised my open communication style and teamwork.

I am confident that my experience, particularly within the field of healthcare marketing, as well as my ability to collaborate and communicate, make me a strong candidate for the Social Media Manager at Sunshine Hospital. I have enclosed my resume, and will contact you next week to see if we might find a time to speak together. Thank you so much for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
