In 2011, Forbes named Sheryl Kara Sandberg, the Chief Operating Office of Facebook the most powerful woman in business:

“After four years as Facebook COO--and shepherding the company through its much anticipated (and criticized) $100 billion IPO in May--Sandberg was named to the social network's board of directors in June.”  Forbes

That same year, Forbes also ranked her as the 5th most powerful woman in the world.

Additionally, in 2015, she was ranked sixteenth richest self-made woman in America with a net worth of $1.18 billion.

Has she lived up to the honor?  Is she still powerful?  Yes and yes, and then some.

Still Going Strong -- And Writing -- And Empowering Other Women

Sandberg is still the Chief Operating Office of Facebook and over the past few years has implemented sweeping changes that have led to remarkable profits and growth.  She has written books, done "Ted", and has sought to encourage women and young girls to not let the "glass ceiling" stop them from pursuing their passions.

In 2013, her first book (co-authored by Neil Scovell) was published.  The book, entitled "Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead" sold more than one million companies in less than one year and remains at the top of the bestseller list two years after it was first published.

The book examines social constraints and other challenges that make it harder for women to succeed.

Her book is empowering and has spawned support groups all over the world to help women speak up regardless of their circumstances and to create more leaders for women.  Her belief in equal pay for men and women has done much to further awareness among women globally.

A Chance Meeting

Facebook was not looking for a COO, but after meeting Sandberg by chance at a Christmas party, Mark Zuckerberg began vetting her the following month at the World Economic Forum (Davos, January 2008) for the position.

She joined Facebook's corporate ranks in 2008 and immediately began to focus on increasing revenue through advertisements.
