Planning your wedding and honeymoon can be stressful and expensive. Of course, it is wonderful to find someone you to spend the rest of your life with. However, the need to have the perfect event and day can quickly take its toll. It is important that your wedding and honeymoon are both memorable and affordable. Traditionally, parents will help to pay for the wedding, but couples are beginning to foot the bill. When you plan your wedding and your honeymoon, you need to determine a budget and stick to it. This should be as specific as assigning amounts to the cake, dress, reception hall and invitations. It is also important to realize that your budget is fluid. If you find the perfect dress, but it costs $300.00 more than you planned on spending, you will need to cut that $300.00 from somewhere in your wedding budget. Many people will overspend in one category, then start spending like crazy, because they broke their budget. Be careful so that you do not fall into the same trap.

Save on Wedding Expenses by Paying with Cash for Your Wedding

You should pay cash for your wedding and honeymoon. You can still have a very nice wedding and pay for you wedding with cash. If you have a shorter engagement, then you may need to scale back on the size of your wedding. It does require special planning and discipline, but you will be grateful that you chose this when you are not paying off your wedding when you have your first child. It can make it easier to purchase a home when the time comes, as well. This also makes it easier to stick your budget since you already have the money to cover your expenses set aside.

  • You may be able to negotiate discounts by paying cash upfront. However, be sure you are working with a reputable service provider so that you do not lose money if something goes wrong.

Save Money on Your Wedding by Finding Areas to Cut Expenses

Look for areas to save money on your wedding. You may be able to save money by planning the wedding yourself instead of using a wedding planner. You can save money by shopping around for most of your services. Additionally, you can save money by cutting back the number of people you invite. As you creatively consider your options you may be surprised at the amount of money you can save, while still having the wedding of your dreams. It may take a little time, but you can find real savings by looking at all of your options from the reception center to the caterer. 

  • Ask for discounts if you use recommended caterers for a reception hall. 
  • See if there are more affordable packages by having your wedding during the week instead of on the weekend.
  • Ask friends for recommendations for their friends who do weddings to see if you can score discounts that way.
  • Consider doing some of the catering or decorating yourself.

Save on Your Wedding Expenses by Finding a Great Deal on Your Honeymoon

Your honeymoon should be a wonderful relaxing vacation that you spend together, but again you do not want to overspend and regret it later. Although the groom traditionally pays for the honeymoon, you may want to set up a realistic budget for the trip. The amount you spend is dependent on your circumstances. For example, if you are still in college a quick weekend getaway may be your best option. However if you are both young professionals you may be able to afford a nicer honeymoon. If you have several months, you can take the time to find some great deals on getaways. An all inclusive resort or trip can allow you to enjoy the trip without worrying about spending while you are on it.
