If you're in college and planning on a career in the arts, you will face a lot of competition in the field. Whether you're a painter or a graphic designer, the industry has many hopefuls trying to break in and get a job. Getting an internship in the business, whether through an art gallery or an agency, can be an important step in building a successful career.

In order to get an offer for an art internship, you'll need a strong resume.

To decide what to include, consider what experience you do have. Evaluate your coursework, any school clubs you joined, your hobbies and any personal interests. For interest, if you started an online shop and sold your paintings, that's an incredible achievement you should highlight to potential employers.

Include an overview of what you'll bring to the internship, such as your eye for detail, interest in modern art or organization. Emphasizing what you can do for them, rather than what they can do for you, is a great way to make yourself stand out from the other applicants. Any software you have experiences with, such as graphic design or photo editing programs, are also useful skills you should include.

College coursework, an interest in art, and art experience are all essential pieces of an effective art resume. If you're unsure where to start looking for an art internship, start with your own college and other local universities.

Many colleges have their own museums and galleries where students can learn, tutor and intern, to get hands-on experience working in the arts. This can be a great way to get experience, learn from the staff and network with other professionals in the art industry.
