Sample Sales Referral Request Letter

Referrals are a powerful way to connect with pre-qualified prospects who might otherwise refuse to speak with you. Of course, the people you ask for referrals might not know what a qualified prospect looks like in your case! For that reason, it's a good idea to educate referrers a bit about what you're looking for. The below letter combines asking for referrals (in a nice way) with explaining what qualities you look for in a prospect.

Dear (Name),

I hope this letter finds you well. I wanted to drop you a line to reconnect with you and also let you know what I'm up to these days. I am now a (Your Job Title) for (Your Company). Since I'm working with a variety of people from different industries and walks of life, I thought I'd check if you would like to be part of my referral team. The primary objective of this team is to support each other and assist when we can in sharing referrals and new opportunities to build our businesses.

Each member becomes a resource for every other member, not only for providing new prospects but as a resource for all our clients who might need or have an interest in our services.
