Rebecca McClay currently serves as a contract editor for The Balance. She has nearly 20 years of editorial experience, more than 15 of them focused on covering financial topics for numerous publications and financial services firms.

Rebecca's previous work in financial journalism includes covering personal finance and investing topics for TheStreet, real estate-related and personal finance news for Bloomberg, and Canadian markets and personal finance topics for MarketWatch. She has contributed financial content for a number of other outlets like Investopedia, Money Morning, and several real-time newswires.

Rebecca has also written and edited for financial services firms like TD Ameritrade, E-Trade, PNC Bank, and Lombard Odier. For these companies, she's provided both consumer-facing content on investing and personal finance topics, as well as content geared for asset managers and C-level executives.

At the start of her career in journalism, Rebecca was a staff writer for the Washington Post Co.'s Gazette newspapers. There, she was first a community reporter then a business reporter covering Washington D.C.-area news for the Gazette of Politics & Business. She also served as managing editor for a financial services consulting firm based in Washington D.C. and a managing editor for long-term investing content for a financial content firm.


Rebecca received her bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Maryland and her master's degree in business journalism from Arizona State University.
