Do You Need a Drill and Mixer Combined in one Single Tool?

For the price yes! For the convenience too! Bosch has recently revealed a nice product combining two of the most used tools in the construction industry under one single piece of equipment. This tool can be ideal for small to medium size contractors as it offers the powerful combination of two tools, a mixer and a driller, under one single equipment while saving space as you will not need to find storage for two different tools.

It can also save time as the worker will have both tools handy, making it easier to switch from one feature to another. And even further, this tool has more torque than just a regular drill, so it makes sense if you want to invest on getting one of these dual tools. This product has been released recently by Bosch North America, after making its debut during the World of Concrete 2016 show in Las Vegas.

Bosch GBM9-16 Drill/Mixer Description

The GBM9-16 Drill-Mixer is a professional grade, heavy duty drill that can also be used as a material mixer. The product offers variable speed allowing for both forward and reverse drilling capabilities. At 550 rpm, the tool can be used for both wood and/or steel while providing high torque for mixing almost any type of material. The product offers a maximum torque of 767 in./lbs. with a maximum no-load rpm of 0-550. The powerful 8-Amp all-ball bearing motor, provides great control that can be achieved by using the two-finger ergonomic soft-grip trigger mechanism with lock-on button for faster material mixing.

The positive bit retention and accurate drill has a 16 mm keyed chuck that supports drilling and mixing accessories.

The housing is made of tough but lightweight magnesium that offers increased durability. One of the things I like the most, is the extra long power cord, 8 foot, with three prong ground plug offering safety when working in exterior or when moisture is present.

The auxiliary handle offers 360 adjustable position to eliminate vibration and offering flexibility to the desired position.

“Users don’t always have storage or tool bag space for a professional drill and a material mixer,” said Mike Iezzi, product manager, corded products, Robert Bosch Tool Corporation. “The Bosch GBM9-16 covers both jobs with a professional-quality power tool. This is a tool that saves space but also delivers on the job.”

Uses and Applications for the Dual Driller and Mixer from Bosch

The Bosch GBM9-16 Drill/Mixer can be used to mix almost all types of materials including paint, varnish, mortar, grout and sealing products. The tool can be very useful and will produce the greater benefits for construction pros specialized on drywall, painting contractors, tile installation contractors and flooring installers. However, since the product has so many uses, you can also have it as one of your everyday tools saving time and money during project execution.

The tool is powerful, yet I would recommend making one slight change: having the ability to move the auxiliary handle to be mounted off the side as well.

For masons is just the right tool and with that torque it is ideal for mixing mud without being concerned on burning the drill up. The feedback from many builders is that is a tool that they could be acquiring due in part because of its affordable price and warranty behind this type of tool. It can be a very useful and valuable tool.

Tips About the Bosch GBM9-16 Drill/Mixer

There are certain thins that you will need to know about this tool:

  • Because it has variable speed, higher speed should be used or works better for materials with low viscosity such as sealing compounds or paint.
  • Lower speed with higher torque should be used when mixing mortar or epoxy resin.
  • The auxiliary handle can be removed as needed for different operations
  • The product can be listed for $170 USD or similar prices depending on the warehouse or lumber yard store.
  • Variable speed with reversing switch ensures maximum control over mixing jobs that range from paint to mortar
