Oak Creek Factory Outlets
Outlet Mall Shopping in Arizona. Oak Creek Factory Outlets

The Oak Creek Factory Outlets is located in beautiful Sedona, Arizona. The mall is attractively designed, however as of October 2015, there were very few stores.

Prior to the recession in 2007, the center was a popular stop for people traveling from Phoenix. The outlet was home to several popular designer brand outlets. However, under the strain of the recession, the outlet mall suffered financial setbacks and slowly one store after another shuttered their doors.

By 2013, the outlet was 35 percent vacant.

In an effort to revitalize the center, local business owners began filling the vacancies. The center became a mixture of outlet stores such as the Gap, Jones of New York, Tuesday Morning and Kitchen Collection along with privately owned antique stores, book stores and consignment shops.

Shoppers to the center also enjoyed outdoor events such as art and craft shows, live music at the Marketplace Café, and a farmer's market on Saturdays and live theater productions.

Unfortunately the revitalization efforts were not as financially successful as some had hoped. Almost all of the independently owned shops closed or relocated as well as some of the national outlet stores.

Another blow to the center came in May 2013, when the Canyon Moon Theater, a community theater troupe, closed after the artistic director decided to step down. The theater had been at the Oak Creek Factory Outlet since 2006.

Oak Creek Factory Outlets Today

At this point it is a stretch to even call this center a factory outlet. The current owners should consider coming up with a new name.

For serious outlet mall shoppers the center will likely be a disappointment unless the current situation changes. For those who like outlet malls with a lot of discounted designer brands and outlet stores, they will probably want to skip this one and head to Outlets at Anthem in Phoenix.

Also, with the number of vacant retail spaces the existing stores are probably small volume stores, which could mean they are operating with limited inventories, hence, less inventory, less selection.

For shoppers that live near by or who are driving by the outlet center, and who like the stores listed below, it might be a great place to pull in, park, shop and get back on the road quickly. According to reviews, the store employees are very nice.

Looking for a place with live entertainment? The Marketplace Cafe seems to still draw in traffic with live entertainment being offered throughout the year.

Shopping centers and malls (of any kind) are sad and depressing places when much of the retail space is boarded up. Oak Creek Factory Outlets is no exception. It is also a very difficult task to win back customers who have given up and gone elsewhere. Until there is some of kind of radical change, I do not see much hope for this center.
