7 No Annual Fee American Express Credit Cards

American Express is one of the most prestigious credit cards with awesome rewards and perks. While some of Amex's best credit cards come with steep annual fees, there are several attractive Amex cards with good rewards and no annual fee. On top of having no annual fee, each of these cards gives you the flexibility to carry a balance and pay it back over time. Many of Amex's other credit cards are charge cards requiring you to pay in full each month.

Amex EveryDay Credit Card

Earn 10,000 bonus points after you make $1,000 in purchases on your new card within the first three months. Earn two points per dollar on purchases at supermarkets (on up to $6,000 in purchases each year) and one point per dollar on everything else. Use the card more for 20 or more separate purchases in a billing cycle and get 20% more bonus points on your purchases (cash advances, balance transfers, and similar transactions don’t count towards the 20 purchases). Points you accumulate can be used on travel, merchandise, or entertainment in Amex Membership Rewards Program.

  • Promotional APR: 0% on purchases and balance transfers for 15 months
  • Regular APR: 12.99% to 21.99%

Blue Cash Everyday

Earn a $100 cashback bonus (redeemable as a statement credit) if you spend $1,000 on your card within the first three months. You can earn 3% cashback at select supermarkets and 2% cashback at gas stations select department stores on up to $6,000 in purchases each year.

(You could earn up to $180 if you spent all $6,000 at supermarkets!) All other purchases earn 1% cash back. Rewards can be redeemed as a statement credit.

  • Promotional APR: 0% APR on purchases and balance transfers for 15 months
  • Regular APR: 12.99% to 21.99%

Blue from American Express

Blue from American Express rewards you with two points per dollar on eligible travel purchases booked on the American Express Travel website and one point for every dollar on all other purchases.

Points can be redeemed with Amex Membership Rewards Program which has over 500 brands.

  • Regular APR: 15.24, 18.24, or 20.24%.

Blue Sky from American Express

Blue Sky doesn’t have an amazing welcome offer like the Blue Cash and the Amex Everyday cards or the opportunity to earn double points like the Blue from American Express. You earn one point per dollar on purchases and you can redeem every 7,500 points for a $100 statement credit towards travel purchases.

The Hilton HHonors from American Express

Earn rewards a whopping 40,000 bonus points after you spend just $750 in purchases on the cards within the first three months. You can earn 7 Hilton HHonors Bonus Points per dollar on participating Hilton hotels and resorts; 5 points per dollar on purchases at U.S. restaurants, supermarkets, and gas stations; 3 points for all other eligible purchases. If you spend $20,000 in eligible purchases on the card in one calendar year, you receive HHonors Gold status through the end of the next calendar year.

If you're a fan of Hilton hotels and resorts, this credit card is an excellent choice.

USAA Cashback Rewards Plus American Express Card

USAA members can apply for the Cashback Rewards Plus American Express Card which lets you earn 5% cashback on up to $3,000 in gas and military base purchases each year, 2% on up to $3,000 in supermarket purchases each year, and 1% on everything else. Your rewards are applied to your account every January as a rebate on all the purchases made within the previous year.

  • Promotional APR: None
  • Regular APR: 11.9% to 25.9% on purchases, balance transfers, and cash advances

PenFed Premium Travel Rewards American Express

Earn a 20,000 bonus points if you spend $2,500 within the first three months of opening your account. Earn five points per dollar on airfare purchases and one point per dollar on all other purchases. Rewards can be redeemed for travel, merchandise, or gift cards. You have to be a member of Pentagon Federal Credit Union to apply, but thankfully civilians can also join through military-related family members or by making charitable donation to one of PenFed’s charity partners.

  • Promotional APR: 2.99% for 12 months on balance transfers made between April 1 and July 14, 2015
  • Regular APR: 9.99% to 17.99% on purchases and balance transfers made after the promotional period

No matter which credit card you choose, you’ll gain access to American Express credit card benefits and perks like the Global Assist Hotline, Entertainment Access, purchase protection, roadside assistance, car rental loss and damage insurance, extended warranty, and travel accident insurance. Keep in mind that Amex credit cards typically require you to have excellent credit, but your hard work at managing your credit pays off in the rewards and perks your receive.
