That’s the number of people who would have lost their unemployment benefits had the American Rescue Plan Act not been enacted, according to one analysis.

The $1.9 trillion package of relief measures was enacted days before the government’s special pandemic unemployment programs were set to expire. Had they not been extended to Sept. 6, an estimated 11.4 million people would have completely lost their benefits by April 11, according to The Century Foundation, a progressive think tank.
