Mercury Insurance Group has been in business for over 50 years and offers auto insurance through local agents. Mercury advertises that it offers lows rates and excellent coverage options for homeowners, condo, renters, umbrella, auto and mechanical breakdown, business auto and business insurance in 13 states.

Mercury Insurance Group was founded by George Joseph in 1961. Mr. Joseph’s purpose in creating Mercury Insurance Group was to provide a low-cost alternative to the bigger insurance companies.

It caters to good drivers with clean driving records and offers preferred policies at a lower insurance premium.

Mercury’s headquarters is located in Los Angeles, California. The company also states on its website that California insurance customers may save hundreds or thousands of dollars per year on auto insurance by switching from their current carrier to Mercury Insurance. The company slogan is “Mercury provides everything you need in an insurance company.”

The company continues to grow as a leading writer for automobile insurance and is the third largest private passenger automobile insurer in the state of California. Mercury Insurance Group has assets of over $4 billion due in part to its tight underwriting and efficient claims handling.

In 2009, Mercury Insurance Group purchased AIS Management, LLC, parent company of Auto Insurance Specialists, LLC. AIS became Mercury’s independent broker selling Mercury Insurance products.

A.M. Best insurance rating organization has given Mercury Insurance Group its highest financial strength rating of “A+” Superior. This means that you can trust in the company’s ability to be able be around when you need them most and to pay its financial obligations and claims.

In customer satisfaction ratings through J.D. Power & Associates, Mercury Insurance Group did not fare as well. The company scored 3 out of 5 in the PowerCircle ratings based on customers surveyed. The J.D. Power & Associates PowerCircle ratings are based on customer satisfaction levels in the areas of billing and payment, policy offerings and claims service. While this is not a terrible rating, it is also not among the best.
