Awesome: Adjective Extremely impressive or daunting; inspiring great admiration, apprehension, or fear; or Extremely good; excellent.

Here are ten ways to make your restaurant an awesome place to eat, work, and own.

1. Have Awesome Staff

Your staff are the front line of your restaurant- they are its voice and attitude. So, in order to have an awesome restaurant, your staff should, well, be awesome. Read more about how to have awesome restaurant staff.

2. Give Back.

As part of your community, you can give back in many ways. Host a charity dinner, with part of the proceeds going to a good cause. Sponsor a little league team or other youth activity. While it’s good for your restaurant’s image, it is also just a good (or awesome) thing to do.

3. Be a Kid Friendly Restaurant

there are many ways to make dining out with young children easier on parents, increasing the likelihood they will come back. If possible, families should be given a larger table (if there are four, give them a table for six) so the kids have room to color or play. Along with offering highchairs and booster seats, staff should offer coloring stuff, and toys (but ask parents first, if these items are okay). Many restaurants keep special kid packs, like boxed crayons and placemats. An assortment of cars and tractors and play animals, stored in a small basket is another cheap way to keep kids entertained while waiting for their food.Read more about how to be kid-friendly at your restaurant.

4. Play Around With Your Menu.

5. Say Hello.

As the restaurant owner, don’t be afraid to get out and mingle with your customers.

Walk the dining room, introduce yourself, ask for feedback. People will appreciate your attentiveness and more often than not you will hear praise for your restaurant and staff.

6. Spread the Love.

If you aren’t using social media at your restaurant, you should start. Right Now. Social media is an easy and fun way to reach customers, both old and new. It allows you to show off your restaurant through pictures and videos and encourages customers to talk about you with their friends. Don’t be afraid to joke with staff and customers, to show your fun side.

8. Don’t Be Cheap.

If a customer has a complaint about a meal, comp the meal, offer a freebie, or give a goodly discount on it. For example, if someone sends back a steak because it isn’t cooked to their liking, offer some sort of freebie, like dessert or a cocktail, if they still aren’t appeased, comp the meal. You might feel the customer is trying to take advantage of you, but how often does that really happen?

9. Always Follow Up on Problems.

Whether it is a customer who has the problem or a staff person, the sooner it is taken care of, the less trouble it will cause you.

10. Relax.

It’s easy to get stressed out over the day to day business of running a restaurant. But remember to take  time to relax. This doesn’t mean jetting off a luxury vacation every few weeks. There are plenty of small things you can do to de-stress and rejuvenate, every day.
