Land Park Homes in Sacramento

Photo gallery of unique homes in Land Park. Architecturally delightful homes from the 1900s through the 1940s. Land Park lies within a dozen blocks of downtown / Midtown Sacramento. It's a wonderfully diverse neighborhood that changes from block to block, and is filled with character and inspirational designs. These Land Park homes are indicative of the magic that lies in store at your fingertips online.

Today's tree-lined streets of Land Park rose from their dusty Gold Rush days, founded by names such as Swanston, Marshall, Cavanaugh, Caruthers, Wright and Kimbrough. Land south of the Zoo was first developed by John Sutter and known as Sutterville. Many landmarks such as the Sutterville Brewery, Riverside Swimming Baths, Edmonds Field and The Land Park Plunge have long ago been demolished. William Land (1837-1911) gave the 166-acre park to the city in 1926.

At the time of writing, Elizabeth Weintraub, DRE # 00697006, is a Broker-Associate at Lyon Real Estate in Sacramento, California.

The lot is enormous at .38 acre. It has a pool and three-car garage.

This home sold in July of 2007 for a remarkable price of $1,575,000 after three days on the market, making it one of the most expensive homes ever sold in Land Park. The listing agent was not the selling agent.

This beautifully remodeled Land Park home is located in the subdivision of Maple Park, near McClatchy High School. The Moderne-style school was designed by architect Leonard Starks in 1936. The home was purchased in June of 2004 for $530,000. Since then, the owners have turned this four-bedroom, three-bath home into a showcase, with an open floor plan and a spectacular back yard.

This home has more than 2,500 square feet now; it's original square footage was closer to 1,900. When remodeling began, many of the interior walls had been removed as the project grew from a simple rehab into a total renovation. It's now one of the most beautiful homes in Land Park. Sacramento Magazine featured this home in its February 2008 issue.

This magnificent two-story Spanish home is situated on the corner of Land Park Drive and Swanston. It's a landmark home, built in 1942 in the Swanston Palms subdivision, named for pioneer Charles Swanston -- his son, George, took over the family meat packing business that was once located on Riverside.

This 2,473 square-foot home has four bedrooms, one of which overlooks the entry way inside the home, and three baths, a formal dining room, and a separate family room toward the back of the home. The courtyards are enclosed, private and make you feel like you're in an European city. It also has a four-car garage.

It sold in November of 2006 for $770,000, almost $100,000 more than its previous sale in 2004.

This three-bedroom, two-bath Arts & Crafts style home was moved to this site between Cordano Way and California Middle School. Because the home was moved across town, the original year of construction, (perhaps it's 1906) may be listed incorrectly in the public records. It is located near Holy Spirit Church, which was built in 1940, and was at one time the only home in the middle of farm lands. It's been enlarged at least twice, presently boasting almost 2,000 square feet, situated on almost a quarter acre.

This timeless beauty has a beautiful master suite with French doors overlooking the lush back yard. The formal dining room has an incredible ceiling. It has lots of wood molding and hardwood floors throughout, plus a spacious updated kitchen with built-in dining nook. Overall, this is a marvelous remodel with newer updates that retains its original charm. Makes one want to sit on the front porch on a warm summer day, sipping mint juleps and watching the traffic go by, without a care in the world.

It sold in December of 2006 at $579,000. The listing agent was not the selling agent.

This Brockway Court home is situated on the corner of Brockway and Freeport Boulevard in the highly desirable W & K College Tract, developed by pioneers W. C. Wright and Kimbrough in the 1930s. This home was built in 1943 and is known as the original home of the Raileys. It has three bedrooms, two baths, a large family room with a built-in bar that overlooks an enormous .34 acre yard.

Meticulously remodeled in 2007, the kitchen has granite and tile, and it's the only first-floor space that backs to Freeport. The formal dining room has a crystal chandelier. It also has a large entry, with a spacious living room and a fireplace.

This home sold for $715,000 in October of 2006, before the remodel, after almost a year on the market. Its owners underestimated its value as the list price started at $899,500. The sellers finally found a buyer in December of 2009 who paid $594,000.

Lincoln Avenue is divided into East Lincoln (east of 18th Street) and West Lincoln (west of 18th Street), bordered by 11th Avenue on the North and 13th Avenue on the South, the latter borders William Land Park, making homes on this street very desirable.

This Tudor home was built in 1931, has four bedrooms, a den and three baths, with the assessor's records showing 2,744 square feet. The dining room has a coved ceiling, original wood work and antique scones. Many rooms feature leaded glass windows. The large family room overlooks the back yard.

Because Lincoln Avenue is considered one of Land Park's premiere streets, homes do not stay on the market for very long. This home sold in eight days in March of 2006 for more than list price at $1,255,000. The listing agent also represented the buyer.

This Tudor was built in 1936 by master craftsman Frank "Squeaky" Williams. Squeaky Williams was a well known architect who built many homes in the 1920s to 1930s, which include Spanish Revival styles as well as Tudors. His homes are sought-after homes in Land Park and quickly sell.

The home on 13th was remodeled in 2000, and it has three bedrooms, two baths, plus an attached two-car garage. The master suite features large closets, double sinks in the bath and many windows. In addition to a formal dining room, there is eat-in space in the kitchen. It also has a basement.

This home sold with zero days on market above list price in May of 2005 at $725,000. The listing and selling agents worked at the same brokerage. It sold in its original condition as a two-bedroom home in February of 2000 with one day on the market at $196,000. It then sold again after the remodel in September of 2000 at $425,000.

This is a landmark Arts & Crafts home on Riverside Boulevard, built in 1910. I saw an old 1910 photograph of this home, with a Model T Ford parked in front of it! You can't miss this home driving down Riverside. It's L-shaped, has three bedrooms, one bath, a fireplace, with about 1,750 square feet. Clearly, a wonderful feature is the giant front porch with picturesque railings, surrounded by many trees.

It is situated on a large parcel of land, at .4489 acres, which is almost half an acre. Very few homes in Land Park are built on parcels this large.

The home sold in November of 1984 at $48,500. This is not a typo.

A spectacular Spanish beauty built in 1936 with abundant square footage of 3,274. This showcase features exceptional architectural details throughout such as beamed ceilings, half-moon windows, many arched doorways and a curved wooden stairway. It has three bedrooms and four baths. Some of the baths are whimsical.

The kitchen has been remodeled with stainless appliances. The library has cedar panels on the walls and ceiling, built-in shelving and a delightful corner fireplace. Each of the three bedrooms upstairs open to a balcony. This is a fabulous family home with lots of little nooks and crannies. Located in the W&K College Tract subdivision, which is known as one of the finest neighborhoods in Land Park, it is nestled away from Freeport Boulevard. The back yard has a sparkling pool and spa, which seems perfect for entertaining.

As far as I'm concerned, and I believe I hold the same opinion as many Land Park residents, there is no better location in Land Park than to be on William Land Park. This four-bedroom, two-bath home was on the market for one day before it sold. It has 2,120 square feet, according to the assessor, and was built in 1939, remodeled in 2002.

The views of the park from this home are unbelievable. There is a pool with fountains in the back yard, and it sits on .16 acre. It has a total of seven rooms, a concrete tile roof and a fireplace.

A Tudor castle fit for a princess, this home is situated in the Homeland subdivision of Land Park on Caramay. The age of this home is not disclosed in the public records, but the square footage is noted as 2,017. It has three bedrooms, four baths and one of the bedrooms has a curved balcony where one could imagine Rapunzel letting down her golden hair to the brick patio below.

There are three fireplaces: in the kitchen, living room and master suite. The fireplace in the living room has stone hearth. The home is a grand mixture of old with the new. A wood ceiling in the family room gives the room a warm glow. It has Brazilian cherry wood flooring with an expansive living room and a completely open kitchen that was designed in a spare-no-cost fashion. From the delightful wave of mosaic tile over the counter, to the granite counters to the warming drawer below the oven, the kitchen is a gourmet cook's delight.

A master suite was added off the back of home in 2005, which includes a spacious walk-in shower sporting overhead towel racks, and the dual vessel sinks are installed above the counter. Off the garage is a one-bedroom, one-bath guest quarters, plus extra storage.

The back yard has a Koi pond with a waterfall. The home has three bedrooms, two baths and has been expanded to 2,294 square feet. It is located in the desirable W&K College Tract neighborhood of Land Park.

This 1942 home sold as a "Diamond in the Rough" in August of 2002 at $498,000. The buyers who purchased the home remodeled it and sold to a real estate agent after five days on the market in April of 2005 at $929,000. The real estate agent sold it a year later in March of 2006 at $989,000.

This 1937 Spanish-style hacienda has six bedrooms and three baths. The original living room, with an updated marble fireplace surround and original Mexican tile around the windows, is situated as a satellite room off the entry way. My guess is the layout has been changed over the years. To reach the rest of the home, one must walk through the dining room, which features built-in Arts & Crafts cabinets.

The floors are beveled plank. There is a bonus room over the garage that offers a lot of storage. The garage is large enough for a SUV. The master suite has a sauna in the bathroom with skylights. A courtyard was created in the back yard, featuring columns, at the time the garage was built in 2003.

This is a landmark home in Land Park, situated on the northwest corner of Land Park Drive and Vallejo. It has 2,372 square feet, not including the garage and bonus room.

This home was originally listed at $1,300,000 in January of 2005. Another agent took over the listing at $990,000 for about 30 days without success. Then the seller listed with a third agent for about 240 days, starting at $1,100,00 and eventually reducing the price to $849,000.

It finally sold through a fourth agent in April of 2006 after 21 days on the market for full price at $695,000. The listing agent also represented the buyer.

William Land Park comprises 166 acres, not counting the golf course, which was donated to the city by William Land in 1926.

More than 500 trees dot the landscaping in William Land Park. Originally, city founders questioned whether trees, much less any type of vegetation, would grow in this swamp land. Today, it is a magnificent park, encompassing a 9-hole golf course, among other attractions, such as the Land Park Zoo, which is situated on more than 14 acres and presents more than 350 animals.

Visitors travel from all over California to see the William Land Park Zoo.

Vic's Ice Cream is a landmark in Land Park. It's a favored destination of many visitors to Sacramento.

Vic's Ice Cream has been in business since 1947 and consistently wins awards year after year. People drive from the Sierra foothills to order ice cream sundaes on the weekends. It's sometimes hard to find a place to eat an ice cream cone inside or outside, because the line of customers at the counter is often very long and the place can get crowded. Fortunately, the neighborhood is so pretty with its tree-lined canopied streets, that you might prefer to walk around to enjoy the sights. You don't need to sit inside.

Vic's also serves lunch items such as hot dogs and grilled-cheese sandwiches. It's an era gone by that is still alive today in Land Park, Sacramento.
