Julianne Slovak has been a news editor at The Balance since March 2021. She is an experienced business journalist with expertise in personal finance, investing, companies, management, and other topics.
A former chief of reporters for Fortune magazine, Julianne has also worked as an editor for several financial services firms, including Capital Group and Citibank. As a freelancer, she has contributed to Forbes, The San Francisco Chronicle, The Houston Chronicle, CNN, Institutional Investor, and other publications or news operations.
She holds a B.A. in English from Princeton University and an M.A. in English from Stanford University, and she still enjoys reading the classics of English literature and literature in translation. She also has a master’s degree in management from Harvard University.
Julianne has spent most of her life in the New York City area, but her travels have taken her from Australia to Africa and from Porto to Prague. She lived in Eastern Europe for several years, where she was a reporter for The Prague Post in the Czech Republic and covered the political, social, and economic turmoil in the former Yugoslavia.
