Jeremy Zafiros is the Senior Compliance Manager for The Balance. He has spent his career working on regulatory compliance initiatives related to the financial products that you use every day.
What exactly does a compliance manager do? Financial products can have a long-lasting impact on your day-to-day life. As a result, the marketing of these products is regulated by government agencies like the Federal Trade Commission and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Jeremy works to make sure that our readers have the information that they need to make informed financial decisions.
Jeremy has worked with dozens of brands like Nerdwallet, Credit Sesame, The Points Guy, The Simple Dollar, Million Mile Secrets, Bankrate, and MagnifyMoney to implement compliance best practices.
Jeremy joined The Balance in 2019. He brings years of marketing compliance experience to the team.
Shortly after Jeremy received his J.D. he joined the compliance team at CreditCards.com. There, he used his knowledge of the law to assist in bringing their network of over 100 financial bloggers into compliance with quickly changing regulations by implementing industry leading best practices. In recognition of his efforts, Jeremy was invited to speak to BoardingArea publishers alongside Barclays about the importance of compliance. While at CreditCards.com he was also able to reduce the risk of manual errors by pushing to become the first publisher network to automate their product rate information.
While at Rakuten Marketing Jeremy helped oversee the Chase, Wells Fargo, and T.D. Bank affiliate programs, monitoring their network of hundreds of publishers.
Prior to joining The Balance, Jeremy was at Wirecutter and was on the team that launched their Money vertical, which included building new products and features that brought compliance to the forefront of content creation.
Jeremy received his Juris Doctorate from Northern Illinois University College of Law in 2011 following his completion of a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Northern Illinois University in 2008.
