Jamie Hopkins, Director of Retirement Research at Carson Wealth

Jamie Hopkins is the retirement expert for The Balance. His articles have been published in USA Today, Barrons, Forbes, Investopedia, and InvestmentNews. His research has also been published in peer-reviewed tax, legal and financial planning journals, including the Journal of Taxation and the Journal of Financial Planning. He primarily does research on retirement planning strategies, estate planning, and taxes. 

Jamie is also the author of the book "Rewirement: Rewiring the Way You Think About Retirement!," which explains the behavioral biases and misconceptions that prevent people from securing their financial retirement. 

Experience

Jamie is the director of retirement research at Carson Wealth, a wealth management company that educates investors and advisors on best practices for financial planning. The firm also helps investors reach their own personal financial and retirement goals. 

Before joining Carson Wealth, Jamie worked in academics and law. As an attorney, he has a background in retirement and estate planning. As a professor, he taught retirement planning at The American College of Financial Services, ran the retirement income program and the retirement income research center, and helped co-create the RICP (Retirement Income Certified Professional) education program.

Jamie is also a member of the Funding Longevity Task Force, and the 2018-2019 President of the Academy of Finance.

Education

Jamie received his B.A. from Davidson College, his J.D. from Villanova University School of Law, his MBA from Villanova University School of Business, and his LLM in taxation from Temple University School of Law. He also has RICP, CLU, and ChFC designations from The American College of Financial Services, and is a CFP professional.
