The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers(ASHRAE) is an organization that shapes and promotes standards is now helping, even more, builders and contractors. ASHRAE has developed some apps that can be used by builders and engineering while in the field facilitating solutions to common problems. Let's check the top three apps they have developed that are available through the iTunes store.

The first two apps were developed for ASHRAE by Carmel Software Corporation, a firm specializing in the development of engineering and scientific mobile and tablet software applications, while the third one  is powered by GTxcel, a leader in digital publishing technology, a provider of hundreds of online digital publications and mobile magazine apps.

The HVAC ASHRAE 62.1 app is used to produce ventilation rates and design parameters for commercial and institutional buildings. This App is used as a reference to ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 62.1-2007, Ventilation for Acceptable Indoor Air Quality. The apps offers the following features:

  • The builder can perform ventilation calcs
  • Share results with their team for further analysis and revisions
  • Different results can be obtained as input values can be customized using slide-on features
  • The app can determine compliance for vent systems

Many builders use this app as a way to quickly verify designs while on the field, reducing the possibility of errors that later on cost extra money to the customer or the design firm.

The app can be used in both inch-pound or international units.Using the same spreadsheet as the one from the standard, the app will calculate and can be used on multiple projects as well.

HVAC ASHRAE Duct Fitting Database

The ASHRAE Duct fitting database app was designed for both, iPhone and iPad users and is now compatible with the latest iOS version released by iTunes.

This app can be used to perform pressure calculations for all of the 235 ASHRAE duct fittings. Very similar to the previous app, the entered values can be adjusted easily and using both inch-pound or international units. This app offers the following features:

  • Capable of creating individual projects with unique values and results
  • You can input data for each fitting
  • Minimum and max values can be changes easily related to all input parameters
  • Fittings can be searchable either using the full code or partial name
  • The app will provide a spreadsheet that can be opened on a PC to verify the accuracy of the results
  • Two different reports can be created and later emailed to your authorized parties
  • Works on both iPad and iPhone and values can be entered in both measurement systems
  • Its mobility and database is ideal for completing field duct pressure loss calculations, without having to going back to the office.
  • The app is available from iTunes for $9.99

High-Performance Building App

This app is kind of unique as it can be used to learn about the best practices and technologies used in high-performance buildings. With this app, you will learn about case studies and how they managed to integrate design practices while improving operations and establishing maintenance techniques.

These scenarios are ideal for every builder to brainstorm and collect ideas previously used that can enhance your high-performance building project. The ideas are proven results of efficiency, sustainability, and best-performance buildings solutions.
