Indeed.com is currently the #1 job site on the internet with over 200 million visitors each month. Indeed sweeps the internet and aggregates listings from job boards and company websites.

Applying for a job on Indeed is pretty straightforward. Read below for detailed information on how to search for a job and apply for a job, as well as how to post your resume on Indeed.

How to Start Searching for Jobs

When you visit Indeed, you will see a simple search engine where you can enter keywords to find job vacancies.

Enter terms like job titles, company names, career fields, skills, and certifications in the box labeled “What” and cities, zip codes or states in the box labeled “Where.”

Read here for more information on the best keywords to use when job searching online.

After entering keywords, click on “Find Jobs” to the right of the search boxes to generate a list of jobs matching the terms you entered.

Advanced Search Options

Job seekers who want a more focused list of vacancies can conduct an advanced search by clicking on “Advanced Job Search” below the “Find Jobs” button on the home page.

This tool enables users to sort jobs by exact keyword or phrase, company name, type of job (internship, full-time, temporary, part-time), salary range, and age of the job listing. You can also choose to only look at jobs posted on employer sites or only jobs from job boards.

If location is important to you, you can also filter by various distances from a zip code, city, or state.

After filling in the advanced boxes, click on the “Find Jobs” button on the lower right of the page to find a list of jobs corresponding to your specifications.

Here are even more tips for using Advanced Search options to find job listings fast.

How to Apply for Jobs on Indeed

After searching, you’ll receive a list of jobs.

Each job listing will include the job title, company name, location, and a brief description.

Click on the bold job title to see a more detailed description of the job. When you click on the job title, a new window will open with the job listing page. You'll be able to view the job description, required qualifications, and job location.

In order to apply, follow the instructions posted with the job description. On the list of jobs, some of the jobs will say in red (beneath the job title and other information), “Easily Apply.” This means that you can apply to them directly through Indeed. Once you click on the bold job title, there will be a button that says “Apply Now” at the bottom of the page. Clicking on this button will take you to a popup Indeed page where you can upload your resume and cover letter. If you are logged in to Indeed, your name, contact information, and resume will already be uploaded.

Job listings that do not say “Easily Apply” will have a button that leads you to that employer’s website. You will typically fill out an application and/or upload your resume and cover letter through their own site.

Posting a Resume

Users are also encouraged to post their resumes, making it easy for employers to search for candidates.

If you sign in to Indeed, you can even create your resume on Indeed.

If you make your resume public, interested employers can see your resume and contact you about jobs. If you make your resume private, no one can see your resume, but you can upload it when applying for jobs.

New Job Notifications

Job seekers can register with Indeed to receive email notifications or alerts about new jobs that match their search criteria. You can do this in two ways. First, once you are registered, you can click on “My Subscriptions” in the top right corner of the page, and choose to receive a daily email with recommendations based on the jobs you click on.

Second, when you conduct a job search, you can also click on the button on the right side of the page that says “Get new jobs for this search by email.” When you click on that, you will receive emails with information on jobs related to that specific job search.

Use the Mobile App

Another way to search and apply for jobs on Indeed is to use the mobile app. It's available for iPhone and Android, and you'll be able to search for jobs, post a resume, get notifications of new listings, and apply for jobs using your mobile device.
