Make your own steak sauce in less than two minutes, using just two basic ingredients. This simple, no-cook recipe, submitted by waltCW3ret, is a definite keeper, and it's easy to customize. Be sure to check out my suggestions for making a low-sodium or low-sugar version.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup tomato ketchup
  • 1/4 to 1/2 cup Worcestershire sauce

Preparation

1. Pour the ketchup into a small bowl.

2. Then, add 1/4 cup of Worcestershire sauce, for a more tomato-flavored steak sauce, or add 1/2 cup of Worcestershire sauce for a stronger-flavored, brown steak sauce, like what you'd find at the grocery store or a steak house.

3. Mix the ketchup and Worcestershire together with a spoon or spatula. Do a quick taste test to see if you need to make any tweaks. Then, use on steaks, hamburgers, meatloaf, etc.

Store any unused steak sauce in the refrigerator. As long as you don't add any fresh ingredients, it should keep as long as store-bought steak sauce. Be sure to label the jar or bottle, so you don't forget what it is, or accidentally mix it up with something else in your fridge. Steak sauce on your ice cream would not be good.

Optional Add-Ins:

Make the recipe your own by adding a little bit of brown sugar, prepared mustard, apple cider vinegar, hot sauce, horseradish, black pepper or your own secret ingredient. Just spend a little time experimenting, and before long you'll have a house steak sauce that you can call your own. Whether you share the recipe with your friends and family is entirely up to you. Sometimes it's nice to keep a few recipes secret. It's how recipes become legendary, after all.

Watching your sodium or sugar intake? Use no-salt or no-sugar-added ketchup in your steak sauce to bring the recipe in line with your dietary needs.
