The job market nationwide is steadily improving, but it’s better in some places than others. A map of postings from a job website shows where applicants have the most options to choose from.
The latest data on the labor market was encouraging for job seekers, with new unemployment claims retreating toward, although not reaching, pre-pandemic levels. But the national statistics obscure the fact that job seekers face vastly different challenges depending on where they live. Job hunting website CareerBuilder.com in late July analyzed how many job postings there were in each state compared with the number of unemployed people there.
The map below shows the number of jobs advertised per 100 unemployed residents, and the positions that are the most sought after in each state.
