Experience

Carissa Rawson is a personal finance writer at The Balance. After spending seven years in the U.S. Air Force as an Arabic translator, she moved to the credit card and award travel sphere to begin writing about her passions. Since then, she's enjoyed educating others on all aspects of personal finance, from home loans to credit scores.

She has worked as a reporter for The Points Guy, where she covered the latest in breaking news for all things award travel. Her work has also been featured in Forbes, Business Insider, Upgraded Points, and Nerdwallet. She began freelance writing for The Balance in November 2020.

When she's not busy developing budgeting strategies, Carissa networks with like-minded communities to ensure that she's got the best information available at her fingertips. She also enjoys managing a portfolio of rental properties across the U.S., with the intent to one day live comfortably on her passive income.

Carissa was born in California but spends most of her time traveling—pandemic aside. She most recently lived in Jerusalem with her husband and two dogs.
