If you have ever wanted to read a book that will throw a ton of interesting sales ideas at you, then this is the book you want to read. Sales, customer retention, customer loyalty, return on investment (RoI), conversions, and leads are just some of the topics you will read about in this book. I must confess that I am a marketer at heart, and ideas that pertain to a sales boost will always find special favor in me.

But then again, all ecommerce business owners know that customer acquisition is their biggest challenge. That's why they must read this book.

Content

If you have heard of an online sales strategy or concept, chances are that you will read about it in this book. To give you a sampling of the areas that this book covers, take a look at the following list:

  • SEO
  • Remarketing
  • Usability
  • Testing
  • Retention
  • Shipping
  • Navigation
  • Search
  • Conversion
  • Social proof

and then there are many more. Right there, you get the impression that the book will serve as a great refresher of topics that you already know, and an invaluable source of what you do not.

Author
Alex Harris has been there, done it. He has created over a hundred websites, and conducted a large number of optimization tests. He has been employed at a large corporation as a conversion optimization expert, and also has entrepreneurial experience. His voice and personality comes shining through in the pages of this book and this is one of its strongest points.

Pros

  • The tips on optimizing your site to improve conversion are a delightful to-do that this book offers.

  • One of my problems with sales manuals is that they tend to discuss a lot of principles, but contain very little that is actionable. This book isn't like that. A lot of what this book has to say has immediate practical application.

  • It is impossible to make all 300 tips work for you, but many of them are gems.

Cons

  • Several of the tips may work today, but they are more like hacks that will stop working over time.

  • Given the range of material covered in the book, most of the stuff lacks depth.

Conclusion

As ecommerce has turned hyper-competitive, it's important that you appreciate the real challenge of ecommerce: customer acquisition. And that is where this book comes in handy. I regard myself as a suave online marketer. But there are dozens of tips in this book that I would not have paid attention to until they were specifically pointed out to me. I recommend that you read this book. Of course, the journey of an ecommerce professional has such a steep learning gradient that you need to read far more than just one book, and that brings me to my recommendations:
