There are two basic types of gas credit cards: Co-branded credit cards affiliated with a gas station and rewards credit cards that pay higher rewards on gas purchases. Rewards credit cards have versatile rewards that you can use on gas, travel, cash back, and more. Co-branded credit cards on the other hand, only offer discounts on gas purchases at that specific gas station brand. We’ve included both types of credit cards on our list, including:

  • Best Overall: Blue Cash Preferred American Express
  • Best Overall Co-Branded Gas Credit Card: Techron Advantage Visa Card
  • Best Sign-Up Bonus: Bank of America Cash Rewards Credit Card
  • Highest Gas Rewards: PenFed Platinum Rewards Signature Card
  • Best for Business: Chase Ink Business Cash
  • Best for Warehouse Gas: Costco Anywhere Visa
  • Best for Instant Savings: Sunoco Rewards Credit Card
  • Biggest Discount: BP Visa
  • Best Flat Rate Discount: ExxonMobil Smart Card

If your car is a gas guzzler and you spend a lot on fuel each month, a deep discount can help you save hundreds of dollars over the year. Pay attention to the rewards and perks of each credit card. The interest rate may also be a strong deciding factor if there's a possibility that you'll carry a balance. Finally, be aware that some gas credit cards can only be used to make purchases at specific gas stations, which limits your ability to make the card your primary credit card.

Best Overall: Blue Cash Preferred American Express
