Concrete forms and asphalt forms are normally made of wood or metal. However, HDPE forms have been gaining popularity and have become very popular due to their multiple benefits and advantages. HDPE is a very durable and sturdy material that will have multiple uses as opposed to wooden forms.

HDPE Forms Benefits

HDPE forms can offer multiple benefits when compared to other types of forms. These are some of the benefits offered:

  • HDPE can be manufactured from recycled materials, earning points towards a LEED certification.
  • HDPE forms can be used over and over before being replaced.
  • This type of form will reduce the construction waste that you will have when using wooden forms.
  • Can be used as forms of irregular or round shapes, returning to their original shape after they are used.
  • HDPE forms can withstand different temperatures and environments
  • Very easy to set up allowing for a faster installation and removal process
  • Manufactured with recessed areas to facilitate removing them once they are used
  • They can be combined and used over different lengths and heights
  • Lightweight material that can result in less workforce
  • Easy to wash
  • Some models can offer to eliminate Toe-Nailing
  • HDPE forms can even offer the ability to form the footing and at the same time provide drainage and radon venting
  • Very easy to level
  • These forms can be attached with screws or nails to standard wooden or metal form stakes

    HDPE Forms Applications

These forms can be used for the following applications:

    • The HDPE forms can be used to form and pour concrete pool decks.
    • Great used on sidewalks.
    • Excellent material to be used as forms on driveways, gutters, and concrete patio decks.
    • Great use on landscaping applications.
    • Can be used when vertical and horizontal transitions are required.
    • Some models will serve as drainage channels and radon venting as well
    • These forms can be bent to achieve curves down to a 3-foot radius

    HDPE Form Installation Tips

These are some tips when using HDPE forms.

    • These forms should be adjoined every 12 feet using sliding steel stake pockets
    • When transitions from straight to round edges be sure to replace the aluminum inserts with HDPE inserts
    • When used in round shapes, be sure to add extra stakes for added support
    • Stackable stake pockets provide for the combination of different height concrete forms resulting in extra height. Up to three forms can be stacked together, but remember to secure them to avoid form malfunctioning.
    • Overhead hanger units shall be used to adjust the form to different width and angles
    • It is recommended to use a release agent for better results
    • Stakes shall be at least 3/4 inch in diameter
    • When doing round installation be sure to use the pins as guides for the installation of the form
    • Due to the material of the form, it might be altered under different weather conditions. In hot temperatures, the HPDE form and stretch more than in colder temperatures.
