Everyone appreciates being recognized for their accomplishments. When someone you know reaches a goal, sending an achievement congratulations letter not only shows that you recognize the person's hard work, it's also a way to stay connected and build a relationship by showing that you care.

There are many different goals people reach during the course of their career. Everything from finishing a project on time, to certification and promotion are achievements that deserve to be noticed and celebrated.

Sending a congratulatory note lets your associate know that you heard their good news and that they can count on your support as they move forward in their career.

Not only does making the effort to communicate over positive developments help to strengthen your network, it’s also a nice thing to do.

As your career progresses, you will need to write business correspondence for a variety of events that come up. You should always keep your tone friendly, but professional, even when you know the person well and are offering support to them.

Don’t use abbreviations, even in an email, and be sure to proofread before you mail a letter or hit send. Remember that your writing is a reflection on your attention to detail, and your correspondence can shape someone’s opinion of what kind of employee you are. Follow these guidelines for writing professional communications in all your correspondence.

In an email, you would omit the contact information at the beginning, and just begin with your salutation. The body of your letter would then follow the same format as a letter. Your contact information (email and phone#) would be included after your closing and typed signature.
